On the 19th October 2016, Flynn O'Driscoll and Ernst & Young (EY) co-hosted a knowledge-packed morning seminar at the Meyrick Hotel, Galway on the legal and tax considerations associated with Intellectual Property (IP) development, ownership and exploitation – Intellectual Porridge!
Opened by Paraic Waters, Tax Lead at EY Galway, Head of Intellectual Property at Flynn O’Driscoll, Laura Myles then got the session underway with a focused discussion on IP, including qualifying IP under Ireland’s new Knowledge Development Box (KDB) regime, and touching also on the key aspects arising under the new General Data Protection Regulation.
Ian Collins, Head of R&D Tax Services at EY shared some insights on maximising IP related tax incentives, which was followed by an update on the KDB by Leanne Storan, Senior Manager of R&D Tax Services at EY, and the tax considerations arising.A panel discussion and presentation of a number of relevant case studies then sparked a very productive and interactive Q&A session from the floor, which was facilitated by Flynn O’Driscoll’s Barry Connolly.
David Ryan, Partner at Flynn O’Driscoll wrapped up proceedings with useful advice and key take-aways for entrepreneurs and senior management alike to help ensure the strategic development and exploitation of IP rights, and in the most tax efficient way.The event was very well attended by clients across a broad range of sectors including industry, innovators and third level institutions, financial institutions and other service providers. We look forward to many more in 2017.
