Jackie O’Connell

Solicitor
Profile

Jackie grew up in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal and relocated to Galway in 2007 to undertake a Bachelor of Civil Law degree, graduating with honours in 2010. Jackie was keen to gain some practical work experience prior to commencing FE1-s and was delighted to be offered a place on a graduate programme in a financial services organisation during which time she completed all FE1's and progressed through key areas of the organisation. Balancing full time work and studying required upskilling and, although challenging at times, prepared Jackie well for a trainee position with one of Ireland's fastest growing law firms.

Jackie underwent the Flynn O'Driscoll application and interview process in 2013 and was delighted to be offered a trainee solicitor position with the firm, commencing January 2014. Jackie gained an invaluable insight into the workings of a top-tier corporate law firm in this time which served her well in attending her first professional practice course in the Law Society in September 2014.

Since this time, Jackie has been exposed to several key areas of law, ensuring a well rounded training period. These areas include contentious employment law disputes, fast-paced High Court litigation and working with new companies as part of the Startup@FOD programme.

Jackie has shown a keen interest in aircraft finance and leasing and has been heavily exposed to this area along with the other members of the specialist FOD Aviation Team in advising operating lessors, lenders, export credit agencies, finance lessors and lessees on all aspects of asset finance in Ireland. Jackie is heavily involved in drafting and negotiating leasing, purchase, sale and finance documentation, advising foreign and domestic aircraft owners and lessors on all aspects of registration of aircraft on the Irish register, acting for aircraft lessors in connection with the reorganisation of substantial parts of their fleets and advising in relation to the Cape Town Convention.

Jackie qualifies at the end of 2016 and hopes to continue to focus on aircraft finance and leasing whilst being exposed to the high calibre of corporate and commercial work undertaken at FOD.
